Paul J. Laverty is a Scottish-Australian author and journalist, currently residing in Castlemaine, Australia. Emerging from the University of Melbourne with a Graduate of Diploma of Arts, he wrote the first biography on Grammy award-winning band Arcade Fire and another on Beck. His novellas Man Overbored and Cider Country were self-published along with his short story collection, In the State of Excitement, released in 2022. Via these he was accepted into the creative writing PhD program with full scholarship at Curtin University studying Scottish literature in Australia and other former British colonies (now awaiting assessment). He has appeared at the Margaret River, Manly and Ubud Writers Festivals. He is the host of the syndicated book show The Quiet Carriage, broadcast on 19 radio stations across Australia and available as a podcast on Spotify (on hiatus until mid-2025). Under the name PJ. Laverty has written two works of commercial sports fiction, published by Fair Play Publishing.
